Minimizing the effects of jitter in distributed hard real-time systems

چکیده
In this paper we present a study of the effects caused in distributed real-time systems by the presence of jitter in the activation of tasks and messages. We show that although jitter has usually a small impact in the schedulability of single-processor systems, in distributed architectures the worst-case response times are significantly delayed. Reducing or eliminating jitter in these systems can increase the schedulability of the system up to 50% more than when jitter is permitted. The delay effects caused by jitter can be prevented by using a bandwidth-preserving scheduling algorithm such as the sporadic server. Since this kind of scheduling policy is not designed for communication networks, in this paper we describe how to adapt and implement the sporadic server algorithm for communication networks. Using the sporadic server both in the processors and networks, we can build distributed systems with up to 100% utilization of the CPUs and communication resources, while still guaranteeing that hard real-time requirements are met. ___________________ This work has been supported in part by the Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología of the Spanish Government, under Grant TAP94-996

متن کاملModeling of Jitter Characteristics for the Second Order Bang-Bang CDR
Bang-Bang clock and data recovery (BBCDR) circuits are hard nonlinear systems due to the nonlinearity introduced by the binary phase detector (BPD). The specification of the CDR frequency response is determined by jitter tolerance and jitter transfer. In this paper, jitter transfer and jitter tolerance of the second-order BBCDR are characterized by formulating the time domain waveforms. As a re...
متن کاملOptimal Operation of Microgrid in the presence of Real-time Pricing Demand Response Program using Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm with a Modified Choice Function
Abstract: Microgrid is one of the newest technologies in power systems. Microgrid can usually has a set of distributed energy resources that makes it able to operate separate from power grid. Optimal operation of microgrids means the optimal dispatch of power resources through day and night hours. This thesis proposed a new method for optimal operation of microgrid. In this method, real-time pr...
متن کاملDistributed Generation Effects on Unbalanced Distribution Network Losses Considering Cost and Security Indices
Due to the increasing interest on renewable sources in recent years, the studies on integration of distributed generation to the power grid have rapidly increased. In order to minimize line losses of power systems, it is crucially important to define the size and location of local generation to be placed. Minimizing the losses in the system would bring two types of saving, in real life, one is ...
